Destination of the Week: The Arctic Circle

A little (actually, a lot) off the beaten path, one may be wondering why, exactly, anyone would make the trek up to the Arctic Circle, but this year I have just the answer. Some scientists are predicting that 2014 will see a double peaking of maximum solar activity. What does that mean in simple terms? Crazy, dramatic, stunning northern lights is what that means, and people are preparing for it. It’s no longer incredibly difficult to see this wondrous spectacle of lights with more hotels near and within the Arctic Circle opening for business. Some even offer northern lights safaris, which include everything from dog sledding and gourmet dinners to actually witnessing the lights with locals. Looking for somewhere in particular? Try the brand new Ion Luxury Adventure Hotel in Iceland or book an adventure package with Fjord Travel Norway.
